Perennial ryegrass biomass retrieval through multispectral UAV data

چکیده

Frequent biomass measurement is a key activity for optimal perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) management in intensive forage-based dairy operations. Due to the necessary high-frequency (i.e., weekly or monthly) pasture monitoring and continuous trend of larger farms, such perceived as an operational bottleneck. Consequently, substantial effort directed development accurate automated technological solutions assessment. The popularization unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) combined with multispectral cameras should allow observational system able deploy machine learning algorithms near real-time dry-matter (DM) mapping. For successful operation, these systems deliver radiometrically orthomosaics robust models generalize across different periods. Nevertheless, accuracy radiometric calibration generalization ability seldom evaluated. Also, pipelines require minimum processing power fast deployment. This study has established two-year experiment comparing reflectance measurements between handheld spectrometer commercial UAV camera. Different based on regression-tree architecture were contrasted regarding accuracy, speed, model size. Model performances validated, providing error-metrics baseline temporal validation. results have shown that standard procedure imagery sub-optimal, requiring further post-processing presenting low correlation spectral bands dates. after post-calibration, use presented better error than point-based sensors, respectively displaying average 397.3 464.2 kg DM/ha when employed alongside best performing algorithm Cubist). When trained validated years, performance was largely reduced deemed unfit purposes. Cubist/M5 family exhibited advantageous characteristics compact structure, allowing higher level interpretability, while smaller size faster deployment Random Forest, Boosted, Bagged Regression Trees algorithms.

Simulating perennial ryegrass cutting

Perennial ryegrass is one of the most commonly cultivated forage species in Europe, where grazing and mowing (cutting) are used to manage this resource. Cutting can be characterized by its intensity (height) and its frequency. Combinations of these two factors affect mono-species grasslands productivity and could also modify the genotypic composition of heterogeneous populations. Indeed, the hi...

Growth Characteristics of Perennial Ryegrass

Mature perennial ryegrass plants in pastures persist through the asexual reproduction of the tiller. Leaves are initiated from the flanks of the tiller stem apex. Generally, two leaves arc growing on a tiller at any one time. New tiller buds may arise from the axils of mature leaves depending on environmental conditions. Flowering results from a physiological change at the stem apex, which then...

Improved Winter Hardiness In TurfType Perennial Ryegrass?

The market for turf-type perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) continues to grow with over $70 million in seed sales in 1994. Breeders in private companies are capitalizing on this increasing ryegrass popularity by continuing to make improvements in turf quality traits such as color, density, texture, mowability and disease resistance. However, all current improved turf-type cultivars do not have...

Aphididae) on Fungal Endophyte-Infected and Uninfected Perennial Ryegrass

The behavior and performance of the Russian wheat aphid, Diuraphis no&r (Mordvilko), on fungal endophyte-infected and endophyte-free perennial ryegrass, Lolium perenne L., was investigated in the laboratory and field. Aphids did not select endophytefree over endophyte-infected leaf sheaths and stem segments in petri dish preference tests. Similarly, the probing behavior of D. noxia on endophyte...

Lolium Endophyte and Sheep Performance on Perennial Ryegrass Cultivars

Some effects of l&m endophyte (Acremonium lolioe) on sheep production were evaluated using pure swards of h igh (SO%>) and low (< 5%) endophyte Nui and Ar ik i ryegrass. The proportion of infected t i l lers in high endophyte treatments increased by 19% in 15 months. Ryegrass staggers occurred on both high endophyte ryegrasses being sl ight ly worse on Nui . The peak ryegrass staggers outbreak ...
